Case study: co-production training for universities

Who:As an associate of the Co-production Lab Wales, I delivered a session at Cardiff University, as part of a series of training events on different aspects of public engagement.

The brief: A 2.5 hours “introduction to co-production” session, interactive, and delivered in person.

What I did: Most of my co-production training sessions are delivered to public service teams, so I adapted the content to suit a research and knowledge generation audience, in Universities considered as anchor / community based organisations. I offered 3 models and ways of looking at the topic, which linked in to 3 rounds of conversations, reflections and Q&A.

What they said: The feedback was very positive from both participants and client team. “A huge thank you for your time and energy in the session, it was really great and hopefully we can find a way to work together again in the future.”

My reflections: I made a really nice change from the usual public service focused content, and I enjoyed adapting the lens (and the examples) to a university context.

And also: Later in the year I delivered a similar session for the Learned Society of Wales, with a focus on early career researchers and practitioners (ECRPs).
