A very late weeknotes because yesterday was bank holiday Monday and I was driving all day and today I am half zombie and I seem to have some kind of a driving hangover. It’s weird writing a weeknote this late, I don’t know which tense to use.
At work:
- Didn’t get much done last week. Have been all worn out from how intense March was (so much training!) and basically managed the minimum necessary to get to Easter weekend. Everything else postponed till after I came back. Maybe unwise, but no other option given how much brain and motivation I had left!
- Board strategic session: Planning and development under way. My draft session plan went to the CEO and Chair for sign-off.
- Team away day session: Designed a session for a team away day, so just had a quick catch-up with the client to run through it and finetune the details. For example as I don’t have time in the contract to do lots of notes and writing up, we’ve agreed we’ll record two feedback segments, so their team can transcribe and capture them.
- It’s financial year end! I closed my accounts for March and I’ll do my tax return after I’m back, and set up the new systems for 2026-27.
Deliverables this week:
- Er… apart from session plans for sign-off, none.
Development this week:
- There’s an invitation to tender we’re going to respond to, me and one of my colleagues (also freelance consultant). We’ve worked together for years but not recently, so it will be nice if we get it and we get to work together again! First, figuring out responding by the deadline, which is shortly after I return.
At home:
- Non-exec role: Supporting the team by compiling summary information from the board conversations, to inform their decision-making.
- Only one pilates because of going away. That and many hours of driving = my body is sad. Looking forward to getting moving again.
- No swimming as I was away at the week-end.
- No Welsh as it’s the Easter holidays and we have two weeks off classes.
- In denial about the car stuff, because I needed to get to Belgium and back, but determined to sort it out properly after.
- I was feeling all sad from having a tough previous week, but I do have good friends who rally round and who are willing to show up for some company and cheering up, and I am so grateful for that.
- I baked a birthday cake and packed the car on Wednesday evening, drove to the other side of Belgium on Thursday, spent Friday with my friend for her birthday, and the rest of the weekend with her and her family (there might have been an Easter egg hunt!) and drove back on Monday. 900-odd miles return. I’m rested from the break and I enjoyed catching up with them all and seeing the kids growing up, but I am also tired from the driving. Rested but tired! I need a nap and/or an early night again to reset. (Maybe both.)
