Weeknotes 44 (May 2026)

At work:

  • Catchment partnership project – planning the second workshop in which we want to develop Terms of Reference, developing the facilitation plan and getting it approved, getting the agenda sent out to participants.
  • ‘Managing change’ session – planning towards session delivery, having chats with interpreters and the lead programme facilitator regarding accessibility and setup, so that when I finalise my session plan I can take all this into account.
  • Co-production case studies – have been touching on writing up some additional ones but I haven’t yet found the right headspace to focus on those, so only small bits so far.
  • Local democracy gathering – doing planning for next steps with the team.

Deliverables this week:

  • Supporting an engagement team – I have tidied up my sketchy notes into a visual process map (draft version 1), which has been well received. I will tweak and adjust it with the team, but it should ultimately be helpful for their work and also for onboarding new team members.

Development this week:

  • Co-design of a strategic plan – had the scoping meeting with the client, now to pull together a proposal and costings.

At home:

  • I flew to France on Tuesday night to stay for a week and support my mum who’s had a cataract operation. I accompanied her to the hospital, settled her back home, covered post-op support, and have been ensuring she’s provided with cups of tea, interesting food, and 3 eyedrops per day. Her recovery has been very good, she’s had hardly any pain, and after 5 days her vision is clear.
  • Working and doing remote meetings, including Welsh class, from my teenage room is weird! 😀
  • Her lovely neighbours popped in one after another on Friday 1st May to bring well wishes and lucky lily-of-the-valley. (It’s traditional in France.)
  • Her recovery has been swift and steady enough that I felt happy leaving her to her own devices for an afternoon and going to visit a friend, who unfortunately has shingles at the moment so is too tired to travel and meet me in the middle. Spent a lot of time in the RER and Metro travelling right to the other side of Paris, but it was nice to sit in her garden and drink tea.
  • Mum dug out all the photo albums because she wanted to show me the shots of Singapore back in the day. I helped her set up her digital accounts (national health dashboard and medical insurance dashboard), sort out her phone (landline and mobile), and generally have been tech support, as you do. 🙂
  • Only 1 pilates this week and no swim because I have been away. I dipped back into doing a bit of shivanata (a type of moving meditation) to keep some sort of movement practice going while away.
  • As a massive introvert I have been struggling a bit being around someone else 24/7, and have been running away to the local parks to find some solitude time, read my book, and re-ground myself.

Looking up to the blue sky dotted with fluffy clouds, framed by leaves and branches.

I found a little corner to read my book outside and enjoy some solitude.
